About Us

"Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, and filling an emptiness we didn't even know we had."

Brian Charry

Owner/Founder Charry's Premier K-9 Training

Brian has always had a love for animal husbandry from an early age, he grew up on farms with a multitude of animals.

He acquired his first German shepherd when he was around 10 years old. Through his high school and college studies he developed an understanding of animal behaviors, genetics and psychology.

In 2012 he got his first working line German shepherd. This developed his interest to further grow his knowledge and skills in training.

Charry's Premier K-9 Training is nestled on a 35 acre farm on Leestown Road conveniently located between Frankfort and Lexington.

In 2013 he was introduce to the sport Schutzhund and was immediately amazed. The fact that you were able to watch dogs perform such a beautiful and elegant routine in synchronization with their handlers

Since then Brian has worked with hundreds of Club, National and World-level dogs and handlers and is continuously learning and growing as a helper, handler, and competitor himself.

Shaping and developing his skills, learning from some of the best trainers around the country and around the world.

His passion had grown and he decided to start CPK-9 in January of 2017. He committed himself fully to help clients have a better relationship with their dogs and share his knowledge and love with them.

He breeds, trains, and competes his own GSDs, taking pride in developing a strong “Von Charry” bloodline with a focus on clear heads,  good confirmation, and workability.

CPK-9's missions and objective is to help develop dogs that meet the needs of their owners and to unlock a dog’s full potential by understanding its emotional needs drives and desires.

What is Schutzhund?

We compete in Schutzhund, now known as IGP and other protection based sports.

CompetetionSchutzhund.jpg

It was developed in Germany in the early 1900s as a suitability test for German Shepherds, but soon became the model for training and evaluating all five of the German protection breeds, which included  Boxer, Dobermann, Riesenschnauzer, and Rottweiler. Though any breed of dog can participate, today the sport is dominated by German Shepherds and the Belgian Malinois breed. Dog owners and handlers participate in Schutzhund clubs as a group activity for training the dogs, and clubs sponsor trials to test the dogs and award titles. The best dogs can qualify to participate in national and international level championships.

If you are interested in protection based sports feel free to contact me and schedule an appointment for sport evaluation and training
